The Sunday’s triple-header of Latvian Virslīga delivered dominant displays from the title contenders, stubborn defending from mid-table fighters, and another setback for a side in freefall.

Riga FC continued their impressive run with a 2-0 win over FK Grobiņa. The hosts controlled possession from start to finish, but for much of the first half lacked the cutting edge to turn pressure into goals. Gauthier Mankenda caused constant problems for the Grobiņa defence and won a penalty in the 10th minute after a challenge from Maksims Sidorovs. The call was debatable, and goalkeeper Frenks Dāvids Orols kept the scores level by saving Marko Regža’s spot kick with his leg.

Riga had more chances through Iago Siqueira, who twice failed to convert from close range, and Anthony Contreras, whose acrobatic attempt hit the crossbar. The breakthrough finally arrived in the 54th minute when Regža battled past his marker to score, before Contreras doubled the lead 22 minutes later with a sliding finish from El Bachir Ngom pass. Riga now turn their attention to European action in Romania against Beitar Jerusalem before facing RFS in a crucial league clash on August 24.

The defending champions FC RFS also enjoyed a convincing night, dismantling SK Super Nova 4-1 in a match defined by set-piece mastery. Stefan Panić opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a curling free kick, and within minutes Jānis Ikaunieks had doubled the advantage with a header. By the 36th minute, his brother Dāvis had added a third, also with his head, marking his first goal since returning to the club.

RFS showed no signs of easing off in the second half, with Mor Tallá threatening and debutant Facundo García making his first appearance. Petr Mareš, provider of two first-half assists, then scored himself after bursting into the box. A highlight came late on as Ismaël Diomandé returned from nearly a year out with an ACL injury. Super Nova’s Kristers Čudars grabbed a consolation goal from distance, but the champions were well in control throughout.

FK Tukums 2000 secured a narrow 1-0 home victory over FK Auda, handing the visitors their fourth consecutive defeat. Early opportunities were scarce, though Auda’s Kader Koné did force a save with a quick turn and shot.

Tukums lost Dāvis Mārcis Valmiera to injury in the first half but struck just before the break when Bogdans Samoilovs set up Maksym Derkach to finish from close range. Auda pushed harder in the second half but couldn’t break through. Their best chance came eight minutes from time when Abdoul Kader Traoré rocked the crossbar from close range, leaving the score unchanged and getting important three points.
