FC Hradec Kralove edged past FC Slovan Liberec 1-0 in the Czech top flight, as two Latvian forwards found themselves on opposite sides of the contest.
Raimonds Krollis returned to Liberec’s starting lineup after serving a one-match suspension, while Marko Regža began the match on the bench for Hradec following three consecutive starts.
Unfortunately for Krollis, his evening was cut short. After picking up a knock in a duel, the Latvian striker was forced off in the 36th minute. Just one minute after his substitution, the hosts conceded the decisive goal.
Club legend Vaclav Pilar capitalised on a series of fortunate rebounds in midfield before driving toward goal. Although defenders managed to recover ground, Pilař shifted the ball centrally and fired a low shot toward the near post, beating goalkeeper Tomaš Koubek. It was the first goal Liberec had conceded at home since late October.
Regža entered the pitch in the 74th minute and helped his side see out the result as Hradec defended resolutely in the closing stages. The 1-0 victory marked Hradec Kralove’s first away win over Slovan Liberec since May 2023.
With the three points, Hradec closed the gap to just three points behind Liberec in the standings. Slovan remain fifth in the table, while Hradec now sit sixth, tightening the race in the upper half of the league.
