Latvia’s WU19 side will use next week’s Baltic Cup in Rīga as preparation for their first appearance in the A League of European Championship qualifying.
The three-team tournament will be played at the Skonto Hall and will feature Latvia, Lithuania and invited guests the Faroe Islands, with free entry for spectators. Lithuania face Latvia on 3 March (14:00), the Faroe Islands meet Lithuania on 5 March (14:00) and Latvia play the Faroe Islands on 7 March (14:00).
Head coach Didzis Matīss will bring his squad together on 1st of March. His provisional list includes players from six domestic clubs, plus two based abroad in Germany and in England.
Latvia finished second at last year’s tournament in Lithuania, behind the hosts, and were also runners-up the previous year. Before that, Latvia won the competition three times in a row.
The current group earned promotion to the A League after a perfect first-round B League qualifying campaign in Malta in late 2025, beating Malta 5-1, Kazakhstan 2-0 and Israel 3-2 to top their group.
Thirteen players from that tournament are included for the Baltic Cup, with Nikola Preijere and Uma Upīte called up to the Latvia senior women’s national team.
Latvia will begin their A League campaign in Switzerland in April, facing the hosts along with England and Wales. The group winners will qualify for the final tournament, scheduled for June and July in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
