Waterford FC have signed Latvia international Anna Gornell from Riga FC Women ahead of the 2026 SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division season.
The 28-year-old central midfielder has won 27 caps for Latvia since making her debut against England in 2021. Born in the United States, she played college football for Oral Roberts Golden Eagles before spells in Europe with Sundsvalls DFF, FC Dornbirn, PAOK and most recently Riga FC, where she served as vice-captain. She has also featured in UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying.
Gornell said: “I am so grateful and happy to have joined Waterford FC for this upcoming season. I have always wanted to play in Ireland, and I’m really grateful for this opportunity. I am excited to see what we can accomplish together as a team this season”.
Waterford head coach Gary Hunt said Gornell’s experience would be a major asset for the squad, adding that her success at club and international level will help the team’s younger players and make her a strong role model in the region.
