Late Nwoga goal gives Šiauliai a point against Hegelmann

Hegelmann and FA Šiauliai shared the points in the fourth round of the Toplyga, playing out a 1-1 draw at Raudondvaris Stadium. The hosts looked on course for their first win of the season, but Šiauliai scored a late equaliser despite being reduced to ten men.

The visitors created the first notable opportunity of the match. Chidera Henry Nwoga combined well with Daniel Romanovskij, whose shot forced a save from Hegelmann goalkeeper Rokas Bagdonavičius, making his debut in the Lithuanian top division at the age of 22. Bagdonavičius was called into action again midway through the first half when he denied an attempt from Rui Batalha.

Hegelmann took the lead just before halftime. After a handball by Nojus Stankevičius inside the penalty area, the referee awarded a penalty to the hosts. Team captain Vilius Armanavičius stepped up and converted from the spot to make it 1-0.

Šiauliai nearly found an equaliser in the 67th minute when defender Edgaras Bierontas sent a set-piece effort narrowly wide of the post. Moments later, the visitors’ task became even more difficult as Stankevičius received his second yellow card of the match, leaving Šiauliai with ten players.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Šiauliai continued to push forward and were rewarded in the closing stages. After a pass from Patrikas Pranckus Chidera Henry Nwoga found the net to level the score late in the match for his first goal for his new club.

The result leaves both sides still searching for their first league victory of the season, as they each collected a point in Raudondvaris.
