Markus Soomets and FC Den Bosch saw their promotion hopes end in extra time after a hard-fought play-off against Telstar. In the second round of the Dutch Eerste Divisie play-offs, the teams were evenly matched across both legs, but a 109th-minute goal in the return leg proved decisive, sending Den Bosch out of the competition.
After a goalless first leg at home, everything was left to play for in the return fixture. The away leg was tense and evenly matched, finishing 1–1 after regular time. The match could have gone either way, but in extra time, Telstar found the winner — a strike by Danny Bakker ended Den Bosch’s season on the spot. Soomets entered the match as a substitute in the 63rd minute.
Victory would have sent Den Bosch into the final promotion round, but the narrow loss brought their campaign to a close.
The 24-year-old Soomets joined the Dutch second-tier side in December on a deal running through the summer of 2026. Despite arriving mid-season, the Estonian midfielder quickly made an impression, featuring in 19 matches — eight of them as a starter.
