# Kristers Volkovs joins FK Tukums, seeking Virslīga breakthrough

**20-year-old central midfielder Kristers Volkovs has joined [FK Tukums](https://balticfootballnews.com/?page_id=1073 "FK Tukums 2000/TELMS"), looking to establish himself in the [Virslīga](https://balticfootballnews.com/?page_id=1079 "Virslīga") after limited top-flight experience in recent seasons.**

A product of the Liepāja football school, Volkovs was on the bench for FK Liepāja in 2021 but moved to [Grobiņa](https://balticfootballnews.com/?page_id=817 "FK Grobiņa") in the Nākotnes Līga in 2022 to gain valuable playing time. His performances caught the attention of [Valmiera FC](https://balticfootballnews.com/?page_id=1423 "Valmiera FC"), where he signed ahead of the 2023 season. That year, he made three Virslīga appearances and played 12 matches in the Nākotnes Līga.

Expectations were high for Volkovs to have a bigger impact in 2024, but an injury disrupted his season, preventing him from featuring in the Virslīga. Now, at FK Tukums, he has a fresh opportunity to prove himself at the highest level in Latvian football.

At the international level, Volkovs has represented Latvia’s U19 team five times, captaining the squad in three of those matches.
