Panevėžys have appointed former first-team captain Linas Klimavičius as head coach of the club’s B side, replacing Povilas Lukšys in a key off-season change.

The club’s reserve team finished 16th in last season’s Pirma lyga after six consecutive campaigns at that level and have been relegated to the II lyga A division. Klimavičius will begin his coaching career in that competition with Panevėžys B.

Lukšys will remain at the organisation, continuing in his role as technical director of the Panevėžys Football Academy.

I’m really happy to have a new challenge in football,” Klimavičius told the club’s website. “I’m pleased to have the opportunity to work as a coach and I’ll put in every effort so that as many players as possible reach the first team and play in the A Lyga. I didn’t want to step away from football after finishing my career – I feel I can pass on my experience to young players and give them extra motivation to chase their dreams.”
