This Saturday, June 7, Jonava, north-east of Kaunas, will get a taste of regional football action as FK Kauno Žalgiris will take on Latvian side BFC Daugavpils in a friendly match at the city’s central stadium. Kick-off is set for 15:00 local time, and admission is free.
The match offers a timely tune-up for both sides during the international break, especially with UEFA Conference League qualifiers a bit more than a month away. Kauno Žalgiris, current leaders of the Lithuanian A Lyga with 30 points from 14 matches, are enjoying a strong season and rank 5th in the Baltic Football Power Rankings.
Their opponents, BFC Daugavpils, are currently 5th in the Latvian Virslīga, with 21 points from 16 matches. The Latvian side is preparing for its first-ever appearance in European competition, competing in the UEFA Conference League qualifications for the first time in their history. They are ranked 14th in the Baltic Power Rankings.
