Lithuanian champions FK Kauno Žalgiris have announced another signing from their main rivals FK Žalgiris Vilnius, this time landing 22-year-old winger Motiejus Burba.

Burba, who had represented FK Žalgiris Vilnius since 2020, collected two A Lyga titles and one Lithuanian Cup during his time in the capital.

Although injuries limited Burba to just 18 appearances this season, he returned to action in September and produced the best spell of his career. In the final eight matches he started, the winger scored three goals and registered two assists. Overall, he finished the campaign with four goals and five assists.

His late-season surge did not go unnoticed and earned him his first call-up to the Lithuanian national team from head coach Edgaras Jankauskas. Burba made his senior debut in November, coming off the bench against Israel, before featuring again four days later in the final FIFA World Cup qualifying match against the Netherlands.

Burba becomes the second FK Žalgiris Vilnius player in a matter of days to make the controversial switch to their fiercest rivals. As previously reported, defender Joris Moutachy joined FK Kauno Žalgiris after two seasons in Vilnius.

The winger has also gathered wide experience across Lithuania, spending loan spells in the top division with FK Nevėžis, FC Džiugas Telšiai, and FK Sūduva. Outside of Lithuania, Burba developed in English academies, including time at Crystal Palace.
