Kauno Žalgiris won the LFF Futsal Cup in Gargždai on Sunday, beating Akmenės kraštas 2-1 in a tight final to bring the trophy back to Kaunas after a one-year absence.

Kaunas both of their goals in the first half. First, Vinicius Carvalho, booked after only 77 seconds for a heavy challenge, made amends with a precise free-kick into the far top corner in the fourth minute. Daniel da Rosa then doubled the lead with a powerful finish into the roof of the net following a flowing move.

Akmenės kraštas had chances to respond before the break, with Levy Costa Neto unable to beat Jordan after being played through by Alessandro Lima. They also used a flying goalkeeper late in the half but Kauno Žalgiris defended the overload.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with goalkeepers limiting clear openings in a physical contest that saw several pauses as players struggled with cramps. With just under five minutes remaining, Klaus Anderson Ferreira Moreno pulled one back from the left corner to set up a tense finish.

Akmenės kraštas again went with a fifth outfield player for the closing stages and enjoyed long spells of possession, but they could not create a clear sight of goal to force extra time.

Carvalho was named the tournament’s most valuable player.
