Kauno Žalgiris plays draw in Wales and moves on to the second round

FK Kauno Žalgiris booked their place in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League following a 1:1 draw away at Welsh side Penybont, securing a 4:1 aggregate victory.

The Lithuanian team took a commanding lead in the first leg at home, winning convincingly 3:0 and putting themselves in a strong position ahead of the return fixture. However, the match in Wales started with an early scare for Žalgiris as Penybont’s opening shot struck the post.

Žalgiris soon regained control, taking the lead in the 13th minute when defender Aldayr Hernández expertly headed in a corner kick. Penybont responded swiftly, with Nathan Wood leveling the score just four minutes later to make it 1:1. The match then became more physical, with Penybont receiving six yellow cards over the course of the game.

Despite Žalgiris pushing for a winning goal in the final stages, neither side managed to score again, and the match ended 1:1. This result was enough for Kauno Žalgiris to advance comfortably to the next qualifying round.

In the second qualifying round of the Conference League, Žalgiris will face Icelandic side Valur, who beat Estonian Flora 5:1 on aggregate.
