League leaders FK Kauno Žalgiris showed no signs of slowing down in the A Lyga, delivering a dominant 4–0 victory over DFK Dainava at Darius and Girėnas Stadium. The win marks their fifth consecutive triumph, solidifying their position at the top of the table.
Manager Eivinas Černiauskas made four changes to his starting lineup ahead of the match, refreshing the squad while maintaining their strong form. Defensive pair Mamadou Bah-Traoré and Anton Tolordava returned after a one-game absence, Serbian midfielder Damjan Pavlović was reinstated in the middle, and Amine Benchaib, the team’s top scorer, was brought back into the attack.
Dainava, who had surprised many by holding reigning champions FK Žalgiris to a draw in the previous round, made just one change to their lineup—Georgian defender Nikoloz Chikovani was given a start. But against this red-hot Kauno side, there was little they could do.
Under the guidance of head coach Eivinas Černiauskas, Kauno Žalgiris controlled possession from the outset. Their persistence paid off in the 23rd minute when Damjan Pavlović flicked a header into the path of Amine Benchaib, who calmly slotted the ball into the net for his sixth goal of the season.
After the break, the home side shifted into high gear, flooding Dainava’s defense with chance after chance. They made it count. In the 62nd minute, Dejan Georgijević rifled in a beautiful strike to double the lead. Fifteen minutes later, Fabien Ourega carved open the defense with a pinpoint pass to Temur Chogadze, who finished clinically from inside the box.
The rout was capped off in the 82nd minute when substitute Fedor Černych rose highest during a corner and nodded the ball past the helpless Dainava keeper. Pavlović picked up his second assist of the match on the play.
With this convincing performance, Kauno Žalgiris remains unshaken atop the standings, outpacing the competition with 30 points. Meanwhile, Dainava, still languishing at the bottom of the table, remains on just three points, desperately searching for a turnaround.
