After spending the first half of the year without a club, veteran Latvian centre-back Kaspars Dubra, 34, has officially announced his retirement from professional football, drawing the curtain on a 15-year career that spanned multiple countries and continental competitions.

“After more than 15 years in top-level football, during which I had the honor of representing the Latvian national team in over 65 matches and experiencing the atmosphere of the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League group stages, while also winning league titles in three different countries, the time has come to end my professional career,” Dubra stated in his announcement.

“I’m grateful to all the teams, coaches, support staff, and players I’ve crossed paths with throughout this journey. And a heartfelt thank you to the fans whose support drove me forward all these years! Now, it’s time for new challenges,” he added.

Dubra’s club career was marked by consistent success. He is a three-time Latvian champion—once with Skonto Riga in 2010 and twice with FK Ventspils in 2013 and 2014. He went on to become a two-time Belarusian champion with BATE Borisov (2015, 2016), and in 2023, he added a Lithuanian league title to his resume with Panevėžys.

Dubra also made his mark on the European stage. In 2015, he played in three Champions League group stage matches with BATE, facing Bayer Leverkusen and AS Roma. In 2019, he played in six Europa League group matches with Ukrainian side Oleksandriya, facing Wolfsburg, Gent, and St-Étienne. He later played in a Conference League group game in 2022 with RFS against Fiorentina.

Throughout his club journey, Dubra also played for Olimps Riga, Polonia Bytom (Poland), and Irtysh Pavlodar (Kazakhstan), spending his final season and a half with Lithuanian outfit Panevėžys.

On the international stage, Dubra debuted for Latvia in November 2010 in a friendly against China. Over the years, he earned 66 caps and scored three goals—all in friendlies against Gibraltar, Lithuania, and San Marino. His final appearance for the national team came in September 2023 in a match against Armenia.
