Lithuanian midfielder Tomas Kalinauskas is making a big impact in Sweden’s second tier, scoring his fifth goal of the season to help Kalmar FF secure a 3-1 win over Brage, briefly moving the club to the top of the Superettan table.
The 25-year-old, on loan at Kalmar, has been in fine form this season. After contributing three goals and an assist in his previous four league matches, he added another on Sunday, converting an early penalty into the bottom-right corner to give the visitors the lead. Brage equalized in the 30th minute, but Kalmar struck twice early in the second half to seal the three points.
Kalinauskas played 50 minutes before being substituted and will now join the Lithuanian national team training camp. Overall, he has five goals and three assists in ten appearances since joining Kalmar. Kalmar will next face Oddevold at home on October 18.
Meanwhile, Lithuanian defender Sigitas Olberkis made his first appearance since August in AF Elbasani’s 0-1 away defeat to Vllaznia in the Albanian top-flight match. The 28-year-old played the full 90 minutes as Elbasani dropped to second place in the league standings.
In Slovenia, Lithuanian national team full-back Pijus Širvys featured for the full 90 minutes as NK Maribor defeated Domžale 3-0. Returning from nearly a month out with injury, this was Širvys’ third game since his comeback. Maribor sit second in the league with 20 points from 11 matches, eight behind leaders NK Celje.
