Mattias Käit featured in midfield as FC Thun’s 10-match winning streak came to an end with a dramatic 2-2 draw against St. Gallen in a clash between the two top teams in the Swiss league.
Before the match, Thun held a 14-point lead over their closest challengers, making the encounter a key battle at the top of the table. Despite their strong position, the visitors struck first before halftime when Lukas Gortler converted a penalty after Aliou Balde was fouled in the box.
Thun responded after the break. Leonardo Bertone equalised from the penalty spot following a handball decision, before defender Genis Montolio headed the hosts into the lead from a corner.
Käit was involved in Thun’s midfield play throughout the match and was substituted in the 71st minute as the league leaders looked set to secure another victory.
However, Christian Witzig scored deep in stoppage time to make it 2-2, ending Thun’s long winning run. Despite the late equaliser, Thun remain firmly at the top of the table with a 14 point lead.
This was Mattias’s 20 appearance this season in the Swiss Super League. Thun’s next match will be in three days when on Sunday they will play an away game against Young Boys.
