The Lithuanian women’s national football team began their 2025 Baltic Cup campaign with a 1–0 victory over the Faroe Islands in Raudondvaris on Friday evening. Tomas Ražanauskas’ side will now face Latvia in Monday’s final after their Baltic neighbours beat Estonia with the same result. The match kicks off at 18:00 at Raudondvaris Stadium, with free entry for spectators.

Lithuania started the semifinal with more possession and attacking intent, testing the Faroese defence several times. Goalkeeper Meda Šeškutė dealt calmly with the few chances created by the visitors. The breakthrough came late in the first half when Rimantė Jonušaitė’s cross deflected off the opposing goalkeeper and into the net, giving Lithuania a 1–0 lead they held to the final whistle.

After the match, head coach Tomas Ražanauskas praised his team’s determination but admitted the performance had been nervy. “I’m very happy with the result, but it was a very tense game,” he said. “We lacked a bit of quality on the ball — the girls can do better and they know how. Maybe it was the pressure to win, but their commitment and fighting spirit were excellent.”

Ražanauskas noted that last year’s defeat to the Faroe Islands had been a strong motivator: “The mindset was great; they wanted revenge. We just need to improve our composure with the ball so we don’t have to fight until the last minute.

The coach also highlighted the physical toll of the domestic season: “It’s the end of the A Lyga season, and it shows in the players’ fitness. It’s not easy. Some aren’t regular starters for their clubs, and we haven’t played together since early June — that’s four and a half months. With only four training sessions, we need to do a lot in very little time.”

Looking ahead to the final, Ražanauskas expects another demanding contest: “Latvia are physically strong and press high. All the teams here are quite similar in level, so the key will be attitude and the desire to win. Now it’s important to recover and prepare for Monday.

To lift the trophy, he said, Lithuania will need sharper decision-making in attack: “We had good opportunities, but sometimes we rushed them. I’d like to see calmer ball control and better execution — that could make the difference.
