Cheltenham Town F.C. have announced the signing of 19-year-old Lithuanian centre-back Jokūbas Mažionis on a one-year loan deal from Championship side Ipswich Town.
Mažionis joined Ipswich in 2023 after spells in the academies of both Arsenal and West Ham United. He made his senior debut at just 16 years old for non-league side Enfield Borough.
During his time at Ipswich, Mažionis captained the U21 side and was loaned out to National League club Woking in January, where he played six full matches before an injury cut his season short. The experience gave him valuable first-team minutes, which he now looks to build on at Cheltenham.
Speaking about his move, Mažionis said:
“I jumped at the opportunity when I heard Cheltenham were interested and now I’m excited to get going. The experience I had at Woking last year was amazing and I can’t thank them enough. I got that exposure that I needed, I’m here now and I can’t wait. I’m excited to play in front of the fans, starting with Saturday. It’s a tough game but hopefully we can get the three points and get the season started well.”
Founded in 1887, Cheltenham Town have never played higher than League One. After being relegated from the third tier in the 2023/24 season, they finished 15th in League Two last year.
