Latvian Virslīga side FS Jelgava have announced that midfielder Gļebs Žaleiko has signed a new contract with the club, extending his stay until the end of the 2026 season.
The 21-year-old spent the second half of the current campaign on loan at Jelgava from FC RFS. During his spell, Žaleiko made 11 Virslīga appearances, and following his impressive performances, the club confirmed that he will join permanently ahead of next season.
Žaleiko had been under contract with three-time Virslīga champions FC RFS, for whom he made his top-flight debut in 2022. That same year, he also featured once in RFS’s historic UEFA Europa Conference League group stage campaign – the club’s debut appearance in the main stages of a European competition.
Throughout his career, Žaleiko has also enjoyed two loan spells with BFC Daugavpils, and in total has accumulated 66 Virslīga appearances, scoring once. Earlier this year, he made his Latvia national team debut in a friendly against Azerbaijan.
FS Jelgava will close out their Virslīga season with two remaining fixtures – hosting FK Metta this Sunday, before travelling to face FK Tukums 2000 on the final matchday next weekend.
