Latvian Virslīga side FS Jelgava have officially announced that the club has extended the contract of central defender Kristers Aļekseičiks until the end of the 2026 season.

The 24-year-old centre-back is completing his first season with the Jelgava outfit after joining from Valmiera FC, which, due to financial difficulties, competed in the third tier this year. Aļekseičiks has been a key figure for Jelgava, making 27 league appearances and scoring one goal during the current campaign.

A product of the Ventspils football school, Aļekseičiks made his Latvian Higher League debut in 2019 with FK Ventspils. Following the club’s collapse, he moved to Valmiera FC, where he spent four seasons. During Valmiera’s title-winning campaign, he also spent part of the season on loan at FK Tukums 2000.

In total, Aļekseičiks has featured in 67 Virslīga matches, finding the net six times.

FS Jelgava’s sporting director Miloslav Brožek expressed his satisfaction with the new deal and praised the defender’s contribution:

“We are very pleased to continue our cooperation with such an excellent footballer as Kristers Aļekseičiks. This agreement is a testament to the sustainability of our system, and Kristers has truly embraced it.”

Brožek also emphasized that the club’s ambitions reach beyond domestic competition:

“It is our duty to keep our promises and keep improving our work so that we can represent not only our team but also the city of Jelgava on the international stage.”

With two league matches remaining in the season, FS Jelgava cannot climb higher than sixth place, though they could slip to eighth depending on results. The team will host FK Metta this Sunday, before closing the season away to FK Tukums 2000 the following weekend.
