Previous meetings between the two sides this season had all been won by the home team – Jelgava claimed a 4-1 victory early in the campaign, while Daugavpils answered with 1-0 and 2-0 wins in the following encounters. Daugavpils entered the break on a high after a key 1-0 win over FK Auda, one of their direct rivals in the European race. Jelgava, meanwhile, were left frustrated after letting a lead slip in a 1-1 draw against SK Super Nova. Jelgava head coach Aleksandrs Basovs made three changes to his starting lineup.
