In today’s Polish Ekstraklasa match, Alvis Jaunzems played the full game for his team Stal Mielec as they suffered a 1-2 defeat against Pogon Szczecin.

The 25-year-old Latvian international has started every match since the team returned from the winter break, and today was no exception. He found himself in the starting lineup on his usual right side. Their opponents, Pogon Szczecin, are competing for a place in the top three of the league.

The first half ended without any goals, although Stal Mielec did manage to find the back of the net, only to have it ruled offside. Jaunzems provided a through ball, but the Stal forward was in an offside position then.

In the second half, Stal Mielec faced a tough challenge when Pogon scored two quick goals within 11 minutes, with Greek forward Efthymios Koulouris and 18-year-old Polish talent Adrian Przyborek netting the goals.

Stal Mielec did manage to get one goal back in the 89th minute when veteran defender Mateusz Matras scored his first goal of the season, but that was it as the game ended 1-2.

In this match, Alvis Jaunzems reached his 20th appearance in the Ekstraklasa this season, with 17 of those being in the starting lineup. He has one assist to his name in these 20 matches.

Following this defeat, Stal Mielec remains in 13th position with 22 points after 21 games. Their next match in the Ekstraklasa will be on Friday when they will play Piast Gliwice away.
