In the Swedish Allsvenskan, Estonia goalkeeper Matvei Igonen faced a tough outing as his Degerfors side fell 0-1 to surprising league leaders Mjällby AIF.
The 28-year-old, who joined Degerfors over the summer, was tested early when veteran defender Tom Pettersson scored in the 13th minute, giving the visitors the lead. That goal proved decisive, as Degerfors suffered a narrow defeat.
Igonen made four saves from five shots on target, continuing his solid form. This season, he has kept two clean sheets in eight appearances. With seven matches remaining, Degerfors sit 15th in the 16-team league with 16 points from 23 games, precariously close to the relegation zone. 14th-place Öster, which would secure at least a playoff spot to avoid automatic relegation, sits just two points ahead.
Degerfors will look to bounce back next Sunday, traveling to face Sirius, who currently occupy 12th place and hold a seven-point cushion over Igonen’s side.
