Estonia’s national team goalkeeper Matvei Igonen played a key role as IF Degerfors secured their place in next season’s Swedish Allsvenskan with a crucial 3-1 away victory over Brommapojkarna on the final day of the season.

Heading into the match, Degerfors were still in danger of relegation and needed both a win and favorable results elsewhere to stay up. Igonen, starting in goal, kept his team steady as Degerfors took a 1-0 lead in the first half and doubled their advantage midway through the second. The hosts pulled one back in the 78th minute, but Degerfors restored their two-goal cushion late on to seal all three points.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper, who joined Degerfors in the summer from Bulgarian side Botev Plovdiv, made two saves from three shots in his 15th appearance for the club, adding to a season that included two clean sheets.

Degerfors’ survival was also aided by results elsewhere – IFK Norrköping, who began the day two points ahead, suffered a late collapse and lost to IFK Göteborg, dropping them into the relegation playoff. That outcome confirmed Degerfors’ 13th-place finish and their stay in Sweden’s top division for the 2026 season.
