Lithuanian vice-champions FC Hegelmann continue to reveal changes to their squad, announcing that first-choice goalkeeper Vincentas Šarkauskas will leave the club after his contract expires. The 26-year-old, born in Klaipėda, will not return for the upcoming season.
Šarkauskas joined Hegelmann in the summer of 2023 from DFK Dainava Alytus. Over three seasons with the Kaunas-based club, he made 57 appearances, keeping 18 clean sheets. This year he delivered one of the strongest campaigns of his career. Although he began the season as the backup behind Arijus Bražinskas, Šarkauskas entered the starting lineup in the 12th matchweek and never relinquished the position. He went on to play 25 A Lyga matches, recording 10 clean sheets.
During his spell with Hegelmann, Šarkauskas finished runner-up twice – in both the league and the domestic cup. His performances also earned him recognition at the national level: in September, he received his first call-up to the Lithuanian national team, though he has yet to make his senior debut.
Before joining Hegelmann, Šarkauskas represented several Lithuanian clubs, including Klaipėdos Atlantas, FK Riteriai, FC Džiugas Telšiai, and the aforementioned Dainava. He also spent one season abroad with Spanish lower-league side CD Guijuelo.
Hegelmann are undergoing significant changes this offseason. Long-time head coach Andrius Skerla has departed, and the club has already bid farewell to captain Klaudijus Upstas and attacking standout Leo Ribeiro. Šarkauskas now becomes the next key player to exit as the club prepares for a major rebuild.
