Hegelmann suffered their first defeat of pre-season as the Lithuanian side went down 2-1 to Latvia’s BFC Daugavpils in a friendly at the football arena in Panevėžys.
The visitors, who finished fourth in the Latvian top flight last season, took the lead on the 38th minute. Hegelmann levelled after the break when 19-year-old Elingas Jonavičius struck to make it 1-1 and reignite the contest.
However, Daugavpils found a late winner when a second goal went in via a deflection off Artiom Ščedro’s boot on the 68th minute. As is customary in warm-up matches, Hegelmann used the second half to give minutes to young players and several footballers on trial. Both goals for Daugavpils were scored by a player on trial.
Hegelmann’s next friendly is scheduled for Sunday, 8 February in Vilnius, where they are due to face Žalgiris with kick-off at 16:15.
