Estonian top-flight club Harju JK Laagri has officially ended its working relationship with assistant coach Sarkhan Huseynov after the Azerbaijani national was detained by police during a recent training session, reports Estonian sports outlet Soccernet.ee.

Huseynov, 38, studied sports management and coaching at a Finnish university and has been involved with various Finnish clubs since 2016. He joined Harju in January of this year as the club made its return to the Estonian Premium Liiga after a one-year hiatus.

Huseynov was last seen on the coaching bench during the Premium Liiga fixture against Kuressaare on June 29. Since then, he has been absent from the squad for three league matches and one Estonian Cup match. According to Soccernet.ee, Finnish authorities have shown serious interest in Huseynov, and a training session several weeks ago ended with his detention by Estonian police.

Harju’s CEO Kalmar Liiv declined to comment on the specifics of the situation, citing respect for personal privacy. However, he confirmed that the club and Huseynov had mutually agreed to terminate the contract. “As far as I know, he is currently in Finland,” Liiv told Soccernet.ee when asked about Huseynov’s current whereabouts.
