After several weeks without playing time, Lithuania’s midfield talent Gvidas Gineitis returned to the pitch in Serie A, featuring in Torino’s thrilling 3-3 draw against Lazio.
The 21-year-old had been left on the bench for his club’s last four league and cup matches. Once again starting as a substitute, he was finally brought on in the 79th minute with the score locked at 2-2, marking his first appearance in over a month.
The closing stages of the game were nothing short of dramatic. In stoppage time, Equatorial Guinea defender Saúl Coco struck what looked to be the winning goal for Torino in the second minute of added time. But deep into an extended 12 minutes of stoppage, the referee awarded Lazio a penalty. Captain Danilo Cataldi converted from the spot to seal a 3-3 draw.
For Gineitis, it was only his third Serie A appearance of the season. Torino sit in 16th place with five points from six games, hovering just above the relegation zone.
Following the international break, Gineitis and Torino will face the ultimate test – an encounter with reigning Serie A champions Napoli.
