Towering 197cm Nigerian striker Edward Unuigbeje has joined Nākotnes Līga club Ogre United on loan. The 20-year-old forward, who made his debut in Latvian football last season, quickly made a name for himself with his impressive goal-scoring ability and dominant physical presence.
Last season was Unuigbeje’s first in Europe, and he adapted remarkably well, netting 13 goals in 25 matches in the Nākotnes Līga, along with two goals in the Latvian Cup. Reflecting on his strong debut campaign, Unuigbeje shared his mindset:
“It’s just about having a strong mindset, hard work, and resilience. Even if it seems the result is not showing, I’m still pushing myself more during training and working on my weaknesses.”
Now, the prolific striker is ready for a new challenge with Ogre United, aiming to help the club achieve a high finish in Latvia’s second tier. Speaking to Baltic Football News, Unuigbeje outlined his ambitions for the season:
“My personal goal is the same – nothing changes. The goal I set for last year was to score at least 20 goals in all competitions this season and help my team qualify for Virslīga and finish strong. I will give everything to help my team achieve these goals this season.”
