Gvidas Gineitis and his club Torino suffered a heavy 0-3 defeat away to Genoa in Serie A on Sunday.

The 21-year-old Lithuanian midfielder made his third consecutive start since returning from a minor injury. Torino were looking to end a three-match winless run, with their last victory coming on 1 February against Lecce.

Genoa entered the match level on ambition and close in the standings, trailing Torino by three points before kick-off. A win would see them draw level, and the home side laid the foundations for that result in the first half.

Genoa struck twice before the break, with English defender Brooke Norton-Cuffy and Ghanaian forward Caleb Ekuban both finding the net. Torino’s situation worsened in the closing stages of the first half when they were reduced to ten men following a straight red card.

In the second half, Genoa added a third goal to secure a comfortable victory, moving level with Torino in the table and avenging their defeat earlier in the season to even the head-to-head record.

Gineitis played the full 90 minutes. For the Lithuanian Footballer of the Year, it was his 18th appearance of the Serie A campaign.

Torino now sit 15th in the standings with 27 points from 26 matches. They will look to respond next Sunday when they host Lazio at home.
