Giedrius Klevinskas has been appointed the new sporting director of FK Žalgiris. The 44-year-old specialist arrives in Vilnius after a decade working in the same role with clubs in the Kaunas region.
Over the past six years, Klevinskas helped FC Hegelmann achieve notable success, including two A Lyga runners-up finishes, participation in UEFA competitions, and three appearances in the Lithuanian Cup finals.
“Giedrius knows Lithuanian football very well from the inside, both as a former player and as a sporting director with extensive experience. Although his work was not always visible to the wider public, his abilities were clear from the results his teams achieved and from the players he identified, many of whom moved on from the A Lyga to higher-level leagues,” said Žalgiris director Mindaugas Kasperūnas. “We also valued the fact that he is a young and ambitious professional, genuinely eager to join Žalgiris and help the club step into a new stage.”
“I’m happy to receive this opportunity, because anyone working in Lithuanian football would want to test themselves at the most decorated club, like Žalgiris. It’s both an exciting challenge and a great responsibility. I believe that my experience and knowledge as a sporting director will help me take on this role and aim for the highest goals,” Klevinskas said. As a player, he spent most of his career with his hometown club Sūduva Marijampolė, winning the LFF Cup in 2006 and 2009.
Klevinskas ended his playing career in 2015 and immediately transitioned into the sporting director role at Stumbras, which made its A Lyga debut that same year.
In 2019, he joined Hegelmann, then competing in the second tier, and helped the club earn promotion to the A Lyga. The Kaunas district team reached the league’s top four for the first time in 2022 and qualified for the UEFA Europa Conference League in 2023 and 2025. In both 2024 and 2025, Hegelmann finished second in the A Lyga and reached the Lithuanian Cup final in 2022, 2024, and 2025.
Klevinskas also has a family connection to Žalgiris: his brother, Saulius Klevinskas, played for the Vilnius club and won the Lithuanian championship titles in 2015 and 2016.
