FS Jelgava’s head coach, Aleksandrs Basovs, has been recognized as the best coach in the Virslīga for April. Under his leadership, the team achieved four wins, one draw, and one loss in six matches played during the month.
In April, FS Jelgava competed in six Virslīga games, securing four wins, one draw, and one loss. The team scored a total of nine goals while conceding four. Notably, they played four home games, winning all of them. FS Jelgava remains the only team in the league that remains undefeated at home. The draw occurred in an away match against FS Metta, with the sole loss in April coming against FK Liepāja.
This season marks the first time Aleksandrs Basovs has served as the head coach of a Virslīga club. In his coaching career, he has primarily worked with youth teams. Basovs began his journey as a youth coach at the Riga Football School in 2000 and later served as the head coach of the Latvian U-19 national team from 2016 to 2018. Prior to his role at FS Jelgava, he was the head coach of the Latvian U-21 national team from 2020 to 2024.
Aleksandrs Basovs is the first head coach of FS Jelgava to receive the Virslīga Coach of the Month title; no previous coach from the team has achieved this honor. Previously, in March, the award was given to RFS manager Viktors Morozs.
