BFC Daugavpils continues to prove itself as a springboard for ambitious talent, with 21-year-old Malian striker Boubou Diallo the latest player to move on to bigger stages. After a standout spell in Latvia, Diallo has signed a long-term deal with Czech club Dukla Prague.
The tall striker— standing at 200 cm — was one of the revelations of the 2023 Virslīga season. In total, he made 28 competitive appearances for BFC Daugavpils this year, finishing with 11 goals and also featuring in European competition, netting once across two games in the UEFA Conference League. Before his move to Latvia, he had played for Standard Liège U23 in Belgium (22 matches) and gained experience on loan at Inter Turku in Finland (10 appearances in the Veikkausliiga).
At Daugavpils, Diallo’s physical presence and consistent scoring made him a marked man for opposition defenders and placed him among the top ten goalscorers in Latvia before his transfer. His ability to dominate aerial duels and pose a constant threat from set pieces turned him into a key figure for the Latgalian club.
Diallo himself acknowledged the importance of his Daugavpils chapter. Speaking after completing the move to Prague, he said: “It is a big honour and a step forward for me. Dukla is a club with great history and tradition, but I will always remember the opportunity I had in Latvia, where I was able to grow as a player and show my qualities.”
Raised in Bamako, Mali’s capital, Diallo began playing football at the age of eight. “My parents took me to my first training session and since then football has been my passion,” he recalled. His path through youth and professional teams eventually led him to Europe and to the platform provided by Daugavpils, which paved the way for his Czech adventure.
Sporting director Martin Hašek explained Dukla’s decision to move for the Malian striker: “With Boubou we are strengthening competition in attack and giving our coach another option in the final third. Thanks to his height and physical attributes he brings power in duels and a threat at set pieces. We believe he will adapt quickly and be a real asset to the team.”
For Diallo, the challenge of Czech football now awaits. “The league is very demanding and intense, but that is exactly what I need to keep improving. I will always give my maximum and fight for the team,” he promised.
