Flora Women opened their Baltic Women’s League campaign with a 2-1 victory over side RFS Women at the EJL Lilleküla indoor hall.
Anastasija Južaninova struck the crossbar with a 23rd-minute free-kick, but made amends four minutes later as her long-range effort looped over the goalkeeper to put the hosts ahead.
RFS levelled on 58 minutes through Anastasija Čermitāne, before substitute Vanessa Grutop restored Flora’s lead in the 72nd minute. Grutop drove a low shot from the edge of the area inside the far post for her first goal in a Flora shirt, celebrating with a cartwheel.
RFS went close late on when Viktorija Lavreniuk hit the bar, but Flora held on. Head coach Karl-Sander Eensoo praised his side’s execution after the match, saying: “A strong opponent. We stuck to the things we had planned. The work we’ve done in preparation has gone very, very well.”
Eensoo added that his squad management was measured despite the importance of the result. “We didn’t take risks with the players’ health, but we still took it seriously – we needed the points and we got them,” the coach concluded.
