Flora and Estonia midfielder Markus Poom has joined Slovak top-flight side AS Trenčín.
The 26-year-old, who was born in Derby, thanked his former club after completing the switch. “Thank you, the whole Flora family. These were very successful years together, full of unforgettable memories,” Poom said. “I wish the club every success and I will look back on this period with gratitude.”
Poom joined Flora in 2016 from Nõmme United and went on to win five Estonian league titles. He leaves having made 180 top-flight appearances for the club, scoring 31 times.
He also spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons on loan at Shamrock Rovers, winning the League of Ireland title in 2023, and has won 33 senior caps for Estonia.
Trenčín, founded in 1992, are two-time Slovak champions (2014-15 and 2015-16). The club are currently 10th in the Niké Liga after finishing 11th last season and keeping their top-flight status via the play-offs.
Slovakian league is no stranger to Baltic players and Poom will be joining young Estonian international Dimitri Jepihhin as well as former Levadia rival Dutch midfielder Richie Musaba at the club. Should he make his debut on Saturday, Poom might encounter another familiar face, Estonian international Kevor Palumets, who plays for Podbrezova. Latvians Daniels Balodis and Glebs Patika are also not far away, both representing Tatran Presov, and Riga FC striker Abdulrahman Taiwo is currently on loan with Spartak Trnava. Former Super Nova winger, Abdoulaye Gueye, is also in Slovakia, representing Dunajska Streda.
