Tallinna Flora opened the 27th round of the Estonian Premium Liiga with a commanding 3-0 victory over Pärnu Vaprus, ending the visitors’ impressive five-match winning streak. This result for at least a few hours lift Flora to the top of the table.

Both sides came into the game boasting long unbeaten runs. Flora had not lost domestically since June 21, when Paide handed them a rare defeat, while their most recent setback in any competition was in Europe on July 17 against Valur. Vaprus, meanwhile, had gone unbeaten since July 20, putting together a spirited eight-match streak that turned them into one of the league’s surprise stories.

There was drama before kickoff as Flora made a last-minute change in goal. Though Evert Grünvald had been listed as the starter, he picked up an injury in the warm-up, and 21-year-old Kaur Kivila stepped in between the posts. Vaprus, on the other hand, welcomed back their teenage sensation and top scorer Marten-Chris Paalberg, who at just 16 years old had already scored eight goals this season.

The match itself began brightly for Vaprus, who looked to continue their confident run and created early pressure. But Flora drew first blood in the 36th minute when Deivid Andreas slipped a pass into Rauno Sappinen, and the national team striker made no mistake in front of goal. Vaprus responded with efforts of their own, but Kivila impressed with sharp stops to keep the home side in front.

After the interval, Vaprus again returned to the pitch with energy, but Flora soon asserted their dominance. In the 64th minute, Danil Kuraksin delivered a pinpoint cross from the right, and substitute Rauno Alliku arrived in the box to double the lead. The visitors’ resistance was broken, and from then on Flora dictated the tempo.

The final blow came in the 87th minute, when Sappinen intercepted a poor pass and set up Nikita Mihhailov, who sealed a convincing 3-0 victory.
