On Tuesday FK Žalgiris secured a confident victory to advance to the LFF Cup Round of 16, but the win came at a cost, as the team lost another key player, Younn Zahary, to injury.
The French defender was forced off the pitch just over 30 minutes into the match after suffering an injury in a non-contact situation. Though Zahary initially attempted to make his way to the locker room on his own, he was ultimately unable to continue without the aid of a stretcher.
Following the game, head coach Vladimir Cheburin expressed hope that the injury was not serious. However, early indications suggest the situation may be more complicated than initially thought. Zahary was scheduled to undergo medical tests on Wednesday, which should provide a clearer picture of the severity of his condition.
Zahary has been one of the most reliable players for FK Žalgiris this season, being one of only three squad members to have played every minute of every match so far. His absence adds to the club’s growing injury list, which already includes Nikola Petković, Adama Fofana, and Giedrius Matulevičius.
The team now faces the challenge of maintaining its momentum in several competitions while coping with key injuries in the squad.
