FK Panevėžys have reinforced their defensive line by signing the club’s first-ever Tunisian player. The 2023 Lithuanian champions have agreed a two-year contract with 25-year-old defender Rayen Mzoughi.
Mzoughi began his professional career in his native Tunisia, where he represented Espérance, Metlaoui and AS Gabès. In the summer of 2023, he moved to Armenia and spent nearly two years with Yerevan-based side Ararat.
The defender is set to join Panevėžys for his first training session on January 5 and shared his initial thoughts with the club’s official website, fk-panevezys.lt.
“Panevėžys is a club with clear ambitions and a strong project. From the very first discussions, I felt that the club believes in my qualities and sees me as part of its future plans,” said Mzoughi. “The opportunity to play in a competitive league, fight for titles and potentially compete in European tournaments was very motivating. I was also impressed by the club’s professionalism and its approach to football, so I felt this was the right move at the right time in my career.”
Describing his playing style, Mzoughi highlighted his commitment and work ethic. “I see myself as a responsible and hardworking player who always gives everything for the team. My main strengths are physical power, discipline, tactical awareness and the desire to fight in every match. I like to help the team both defensively and offensively, and I always aim to be consistent in my performances.”
Looking ahead, the Tunisian defender is focused on making a quick impact. “My main goal for the coming year is to adapt quickly to the team and the league, help Panevėžys achieve its objectives and contribute with strong performances. On a personal level, I want to continue developing, gain more experience at a high level and help the club succeed both domestically and in Europe.”
Mzoughi becomes the latest addition to Panevėžys during the winter transfer window. In December, the club also signed Ernestas Burdzilauskas, Oleksandr Kurtsev, Matas Ramanauskas and Arijus Bražinskas.
