Lithuanian A Lyga bronze medalists FK Žalgiris have announced their first signing of the new era at the club, completing the signing of midfielder Deividas Šešplaukis from FA Šiauliai.

Šiauliai confirmed earlier today that the player was leaving the club, and shortly afterwards Žalgiris teased the move with a video on social media, before officially unveiling Šešplaukis as their latest addition.

The versatile Lithuanian, who can operate both in midfield and at full-back, endured an injury-disrupted season in 2025, making just 16 league appearances and registering three assists. FA Šiauliai finished fifth and will not compete in European competitions next season.

Despite the setbacks last season, Šešplaukis leaves Šiauliai having built an important legacy at the club. Over the past four seasons, he made 100 appearances, scoring 10 goals and delivering 10 assists. He played a key role in the club’s historic third-place finish in the A Lyga in 2023 and also helped the team reach the Lithuanian Cup final that same year.

In an emotional farewell message on the FA Šiauliai website, Šešplaukis reflected on his time with the club:

“The time has come to say goodbye. Over the past four years in Šiauliai, there have been many great victories and, of course, some tough moments. Still, this period was one of the best chapters of my career. Unfortunately, injuries prevented me from fully showing my potential, but that is now part of my story.

My time in this organization helped me grow as a player and as a person. I witnessed the club develop from its very first matches in the top division, and I truly wish it continued growth and success.

I sincerely thank the entire Šiauliai football family – the fans, sponsors, coaches, staff, academy, and my teammates – for standing by me in difficult moments.”

Before joining FA Šiauliai, Šešplaukis also represented FK Sūduva and FK Kauno Žalgiris during his career.

For FK Žalgiris, this signing marks the beginning of a new era at the club. Andrius Tapinas has been appointed as president, entrepreneur Tadas Burgaila has become the club’s main shareholder, and Giedrius Klevinskas has taken on the role of sporting director.

Žalgiris have already confirmed several departures following the change in leadership, with defenders Luka Dumančić and Joris Moutachy, as well as newly capped Lithuanian international Motiejus Burba, all leaving the club – with the latter two making the move to rivals and reigning champions FK Kauno Žalgiris.
