FK Sūduva have announced that experienced full-back Markas Beneta will continue playing for the club through the 2026 season, extending his second spell in Marijampolė.

The 32-year-old defender returned to Sūduva ahead of the 2025 campaign after signing a one-year contract. The Lithuania international went on to make 33 appearances during the season, registering one assist, as Sūduva finished fourth in the league standings – just three points behind FK Žalgiris Vilnius and narrowly missing out on European qualification.

After signing his new deal, Beneta spoke openly about his connection to the club and city.

“After my first period in Marijampolė, it was clear where my home was – my walls, my pitch,” Beneta said. “I had to leave for a while, but I always supported the team and wanted to remain part of it in some way. Today I have the opportunity to contribute to future victories, to be part of the whole process and witness it from the inside. I hope we can build a team with the same strong dressing-room atmosphere, where teammates stand up for one another.”

Over the course of his career, Beneta has made 320 appearances in the Lithuanian top flight, representing FC Klaipėda, Atlantas, FK Kauno Žalgiris, FK Panevėžys, and FK Sūduva. He has also earned 26 caps for the Lithuanian national team.

Beneta’s experience extends beyond Lithuania as well. He has spent one season abroad in Estonia with JK Narva Trans and another in Poland with Zagłębie Sosnowiec.
