Estonian national team players Dimitri Jepihhin and Kevor Palumets both provided assists on Saturday as their respective clubs celebrated victories in the Slovak top flight.
AS Trenčín, featuring two Estonian internationals in the starting lineup – Markus Poom and Dimitri Jepihhin – claimed a surprise 2-0 away win over league leaders Slovan Bratislava. Recent signing Richie Musaba, who spent the previous two seasons at FCI Levadia, was also in the starting XI and made an immediate impact, assisting Eynel Soares’ opener in the fifth minute.
Trenčín doubled their lead in the 27th minute. Jepihhin delivered a precise cross across goal that found Cape Verdean forward Soares, who scored his second of the match. Shortly after the second goal, Markus Poom was forced off with an injury. Despite Slovan Bratislava controlling large stretches of the game, they were unable to break through, and the match ended 2-0.
For Jepihhin, who recently returned from a long-term injury, it was his second appearance since coming back. He was substituted at halftime. The assist marked his first of the season in what was his fourth league appearance.
The victory lifted Trenčín to eighth place in the standings and marked their first away win over Slovan Bratislava in nearly a decade. Their next match comes next Saturday at home against Michalovce.
Elsewhere in the Slovak league, Kevor Palumets registered his sixth assist of the season as Podbrežová cruised to a 5-0 victory over Ružomberok. The 23-year-old midfielder set up his side’s second goal just before halftime, flicking on a corner at the near post for a teammate to convert at the far side.
Palumets played 68 minutes and also received a yellow card. This was his 20th league appearance of the season, during which he has recorded six assists and two goals. Podbrežová remain fifth in the table with 30 points from 20 matches. Their next fixture is away to Spartak Trnava next Saturday.
