Estonia have begun preparations to form a women’s futsal national team for the first time, with an initial joint training day held on the country’s Independence Day, the 24th February.
The session took place at the Saue State Gymnasium sports hall in Laagri and brought together players from women’s futsal clubs as part of an assessment and development programme aimed at building a future squad.
According to the Estonian FA’s website, the day was designed to map the current player pool and establish training standards, with two meetings and two on-court sessions. Work focused on technical detail, game speed, decision-making and an introduction to international-level demands.
Each club was invited to nominate four or five players, while coaches and club representatives were also encouraged to attend, observe and ask questions.
The programme was led by Estonia men’s futsal head coach Mikko Kytölä, alongside assistant coach Dmitri Skiperski and goalkeeping coach Nikolai Pulkkinen. Physiotherapist Pavel Putškov and top leagues chief executive Teet Allas were also part of the staff.
Further camps are planned for autumn 2026, with an official first national team training camp targeted for spring 2027. The longer-term aim is to enter a World Cup qualifying tournament in autumn 2028.
