As the 2026 football season approaches, the Lithuanian Football Federation has released information regarding the clubs that have submitted applications to take part in the licensing process.

A total of 11 clubs have applied for participation in the 2026 A Lyga licensing procedure. The full list of applicants is as follows:

“FK Žalgiris Vilnius”, “ FC Hegelmann”, “FK Kauno Žalgiris”, “Banga Gargždai”, “Džiugas Telšiai”, “FA Šiauliai”, “FK Panevėžys”, “FK Sūduva Marijampolė”, “FK Riteriai”, “Tauras Tauragė”, and “FK TransINVEST”.

It is important to note that only ten clubs are eligible to compete in the upcoming A Lyga season. In theory, Tauragė’s club is the only team on the list that would not secure a place.

However, given the unstable situation surrounding FK Riteriai and the uncertainty linked to the arrival of new investors from the Netherlands, the scenario remains unclear. As a result, Tauragė’s chances of participating in the A Lyga cannot be entirely ruled out in theory.

The Licensing Committee meeting to decide on the issuance of A Lyga licenses is scheduled to take place on February 5, 2026.
