Lithuanian Cup holders FK Panevėžys have officially announced the signing of Ukrainian attacking player Oleksandr Kurtsev on a two-year contract.
The 23-year-old arrives from Džiugas Telšiai, where he enjoyed an outstanding season in the A Lyga. In his first year in Lithuanian football, Kurtsev scored 11 goals and provided four assists in 35 league matches, finishing as Džiugas’ top scorer and one of the most productive attackers in the division.
Kurtsev will continue his career in Lithuania through the 2026 season, joining a Panevėžys side preparing not only for the upcoming league campaign but also for qualification matches in the UEFA Conference League.
Speaking after the official announcement, Kurtsev expressed excitement about his move and confidence in the new challenge ahead:
“First of all, I was very motivated by the strong interest the club showed in me. This is a step forward in my career – playing in the Conference League and staying in a country that I truly like.
I am very pleased with last season. I achieved my goals thanks to the trust of the coaching staff, my great teammates, the good atmosphere at the club, and the support from the people of Telšiai.
At Panevėžys, I will fully focus on the team’s objectives. I want to become an important part of the squad and make the city’s fans proud with effective performances,” Kurtsev told fk-panevezys.lt.
Born in Kharkiv, Kurtsev previously spent two seasons in Latvia with FK Metta, where he began his professional career after joining from the Metalist 1925 academy in the summer of 2022.
Kurtsev becomes Panevėžys’ second signing of the offseason. Earlier, the club confirmed the arrival of Ernestas Burdzilauskas on loan from champions FK Kauno Žalgiris until the end of the season.
