# Džiugas end six-match winless run with victory over Panevėžys
**Džiugas Telšiai returned to winning ways in the Lithuanian Toplyga after defeating Panevėžys 2-1 at home in the 34th round. Ronald Sobowale’s 79th-minute winner ended the hosts’ six-match winless streak and secured sixth place in the standings, ending Panevėžys’ hopes of overtaking them.**

Playing in difficult autumn weather conditions on Sunday evening, Džiugas made the brighter start, enjoying more possession and looking to create opportunities through deliveries into the penalty area. However, the hosts initially struggled to find the accuracy needed to seriously trouble the visiting defence.

The first notable attempt arrived in the 16th minute when Valentino Vermeulen connected with a corner delivery but sent his effort over the crossbar.

Džiugas eventually broke the deadlock on the half-hour mark through Pedro Bahia. After receiving a pass from Denys Bunchukov, the Brazilian controlled the ball well before unleashing an excellent strike from outside the penalty area into the far corner, giving the hosts a 1-0 advantage.

However, their lead lasted just five minutes. Panevėžys responded in the 35th minute when Isaac Asante stepped up to take a free kick and successfully converted it, restoring parity before the interval.

The hosts continued to dictate proceedings after the restart, with Bahia once again threatening the Panevėžys goal. This time, however, goalkeeper Vytautas Černiauskas produced an important save to deny the Brazilian his second goal of the evening.

Panevėžys struggled to establish any attacking rhythm during the second half, finding it difficult to move the ball into the opposition half. Džiugas, meanwhile, maintained control of possession and continued searching for a breakthrough.

Their persistence finally paid off in the 79th minute. Following an effort that struck the post, the ball rebounded into the path of Ronald Sobowale, who reacted quickest to finish from close range and restore the hosts’ advantage.

The late goal proved decisive, with Džiugas holding on to secure their first victory in seven league matches. The win takes the Telšiai side to 42 points in sixth place, seven clear of seventh-placed Panevėžys, whose hopes of overtaking Džiugas have now been extinguished.
