Latvia’s U21 national team will play their first matches of the year later this month, continuing their 2027 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualification campaign with fixtures against Georgia and Northern Ireland.
The squad will gather on Sunday before travelling to Georgia, where they will face the hosts in Kutaisi on March 27 at 17:00 (Latvian time). After returning to Rīga, Latvia will host Northern Ireland on March 31 at 14:00 at the BTA Daugava Stadium, with free entry for spectators.
Head coach Jakub Dovalil has selected a squad combining domestic and international experience. The most represented club in the squad is Virslīga newcomers Ogre United, who have five players included in the team.
Several players are also gaining experience abroad, with representatives from clubs in Georgia, Ireland and Italy. Daniels Nosegbe-Suško currently plays in Georgia, Markuss Strods is based in Ireland, while Kristians Mežsargs represents Como 1907 Primavera in Italy.
These matches will mark the beginning of the second round of qualification. Latvia collected four points from five games in the opening phase and currently sit fifth in the group, just three points behind third place.
Earlier in the campaign, Latvia played out a draw at home against Georgia, but suffered a narrow defeat against Northern Ireland in difficult conditions. In the standings, Greece lead the group with a perfect record, followed by Germany, while Malta remain without points.
The qualification campaign will conclude in early autumn, when Latvia host Germany, travel to face Greece, and finish with a home match against Malta.
