Swedish top-flight club Degerfors IF have announced the signing of Estonian goalkeeper Matvei Igonen. The 28-year-old joins on a contract that runs until the end of the year.

Igonen began his career with Ajax Lasnamäe and made his senior debut at Infonet Tallinn, where he played over 100 matches and won the Estonian league title in 2016.

In 2018, he moved to Norwegian top-tier side Lillestrøm, before returning to Estonia to join the country’s most prominent club, Flora Tallinn. There, he featured in 16 European matches.

His next stop was Poland, where he played 41 games and kept 11 clean sheets for Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biała during the 2022/23 season.

In 2023, Igonen joined Bulgarian club Hebar Pazardzhik, later moving to Botev Plovdiv. He made 17 league appearances and played in the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers before his contract was terminated in June due to financial issues at the club.

Internationally, Igonen debuted for Estonia’s senior team in 2017 and has since earned 17 caps. He has also made 36 youth appearances across various age groups. His most recent international match came in March this year, helping Estonia to a 3–2 win over Moldova in World Cup qualifying.

Degerfors IF currently are 14th in the Swedish Allsvenskan with 13 points after 15 matches. Igonen is eligible to play in Saturday’s clash against GAIS.
