FK Sūduva Marijampolė have secured the services of homegrown defender Žygimantas Baltrūnas, signing a new contract that will keep the 23-year-old at the club through the 2026 season.
Baltrūnas, a Marijampolė native, has been part of the club’s first team since 2022. In the 2025 A Lyga campaign, he featured in 34 matches, scoring one goal, providing four assists, and receiving four bookings.
He also played four matches in the FPRO LFF Cup, where he added another goal to his tally.
“I can put it simply: this is my city, this is my team, and I’m happy to be here,” Baltrūnas said. The defender assessed his previous season positively but avoided setting specific objectives for the upcoming year.
“Last season I contributed more in attack, but I’m a defender, and my main job is to make sure the team doesn’t concede,” said Baltrūnas, who was occasionally deployed as a centre-back during the campaign. “For next season, I don’t want to set a target of finishing in any particular position. In my opinion, whether we play at home or away, we must step onto the pitch aiming to win every single match.”
Under head coach Donatas Vencevičius, Sūduva finished fourth in the 2025 A Lyga. The team will begin preparations for the new season in early January.
