# Daugavpils beat rotated Auda to tighten Virsliga race for Europe
BFC Daugavpils moved to within a point of Liepāja in the Virsliga standings after beating Auda 2-1 at home. The win drew Daugavpils level with Auda in their season head-to-head record and sharpened the contest for the league’s final European place.

Daniel Kivinda opened the scoring just before half-time, controlling Ervīns Piņaskins’ pass before firing home. Auda equalised eight minutes after the break when 18-year-old Andrews Appiah converted a penalty, awarded after Ralfs Kragliks was fouled. Four minutes later, Kiwinda set up Piņaskins, who restored the hosts’ lead. Joel Yakubu struck the post on a Daugavpils counter-attack soon afterwards.

Auda had made seven changes from the side that beat Liepāja the previous week, with captain Eduards Dašķevičs among those rested and first-choice goalkeeper Nils Puriņš left out of the squad. Alvis Jaunzems made his first appearance in almost 13 months, and his first in the Virsliga since August 2023. Auda’s defeat was their first on Latvian soil since June. Daugavpils have three league matches remaining, while Liepāja have the same number.

Daugavpils 2-1 Auda (half-time 1-0): Kivinda 45, Piņaskins 57; Appiah 53 (pen).
