Latvian international defender Andrejs Cigaņiks and his club FC Luzern ended their Swiss Super League campaign on a disappointing note, suffering a heavy 0–4 defeat away to FC Basel in the final match of the season.

Cigaņiks started the match and played the full 90 minutes, but it was a tough outing for Luzern, who fell behind early and never recovered. Basel dominated the encounter, with goals from Albian Ajeti, Philip Otele, Anton Kade, and Benie Traoré securing a convincing win for the home side.

The loss proved costly for Luzern, who finished sixth in the league standings with 52 points from 38 matches — just two points short of the top four and a place in the UEFA Conference League qualifiers. The defeat meant they narrowly missed out on European football for next season.

Despite the disappointing end, it was a solid debut season in Switzerland for Cigaņiks. The 26-year-old featured in 34 of Luzern’s 38 league games, scoring once and providing four assists, establishing himself as a key figure in the squad.
